Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato

Students in First through Fourth Grades will practice reading and writing skills as well as following directions and speaking skills through an interactive videoconferencing project.

Two classrooms will be paired up for each session.  Before the video conference session, each class will read the story Jamie O’Rourke and the Big Potato by Tomie dePaola.  The class will use the potato template suggested below to create a potato man or woman.  The class will then write a description of their potato man or woman and send the description to their partner class via email.  Each class will recreate the potato man or woman based only the written description.  The classes will then connect via a video conference to compare their recreated potato men or women with the original one sharing similarities, differences and how the descriptions were written and interpreted.
